Toyota FCV (pictured) moves closer to production
With anticipation and excitement growing stronger and stronger for the Toyota FCV’s release, we are now one step closer to seeing it on the road with Toyota gaining the government’s approval status for them to build and inspect manufactured hydrogen tanks that carry high amounts of pressure. This has been a large hurdle in Toyota’s race to produce the world’s first road legal hydrogen powered vehicle due to the strict Japanese laws that outline all pressurised gas containers should be type-certified and should be available at all times to inspect for an official safety inspection throughout the manufacturing process. Now that Toyota have been given the go ahead, this boost in plans means that they can now ramp up the production of hydrogen tanks that can store hydrogen fuel at 70mpa (700bar) pressure.

Mitsubishi Outlander: the lowdown
Mitsubishi has finally unveiled the European Outlander, 11 months after the seven-seat crossover hit Japanese showrooms. But you'll still have to wait until 1 March 2007 to get your hands on the mid-size SUV. The Outlander is certainly a crossover, combining car-based underpinnings and primarily two-wheel drive with lockable four-wheel drive for when you hit the muddy stuff.
The lesser of the two new offerings, the new SLS GT, will cost from £165,030 and gets an extra 20bhp over the standard SLS, taking its output to 591.bhp, with power driven to the rear wheels through the AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT seven-speed ‘box, with 0-62mph taking 3.7 seconds on the way to a top speed of 199mph. If it matters, official economy is 21.4mpg and emissions 308g/km. Standard specification includes nappa leather and Alcantara for the AMG performance steering wheel, designo black leather with red stitching, AMG mats, B&O BeoSound AMG, red seat belts, 19″ alloys at the front and 20″ alloys at the back, carbon fibre mirrors, red brake calipers and AMG GT badges.
